Griffin Street, Manly

For the Griffin Street project in Manly, my vision was to create a modern, chic, and cool home that reflects its coastal environment without relying on a typical beach house aesthetic. I wanted the design to honour Manly’s unique identity and fascinating history while embracing its location near the Sydney Harbour heads.

The top balcony offers breathtaking views of the harbour, which inspired my choice of materials. I selected a terrazzo-style marble with intricate veining reminiscent of a river mouth, paired with fabrics that evoke the softness of clouds. To contrast, I incorporated red brick flooring and wood panelling, creating a warm and tactile environment. This combination balances the summery, light-filled vibe of Manly with a sense of cosiness for winter.

To maximise natural light, I introduced a central void connecting the first and second levels, allowing sunlight to flow through the space, especially into the downstairs bedrooms. The overall palette is warm and inviting, reflecting the colours of the local landscape. This design blends timeless elegance with subtle nods to its seaside location, offering both comfort and sophistication year-round.
